Field Experience

Week one

I was quite nervous to start this week out. We were teaching the first day, so we didn't have time to get to know our class. We taught the preamble and the bill of rights. We taught everyday this week but one, and the one we didn't teach we worked more on our preamble posters. They took a bit longer than we thought. There were things we would have changed after doing them, but overall felt good about the lessons. It helped being in there for a few days. By the end of the week, we knew the students names and were feeling comfortable with the class. It is a very rowdy class, but I think it will be a lot of fun. We went to two assemblies this week and they were both a lot of fun.

Week two

We are teaching the same lessons but in the other 4th grade class. We are teaching everyday but Friday because of an assembly. It has been nice to go over math in small groups with students from both classes, so we knew a few students from our groups. The lessons went well. Our time table was different so we had to change and modify a few things, but they went well. We also went to an assembly that the kids were able to show off what they have worked on in art for the past month. It was good, but too long. It was about 2 1/2 hours long. The kids were very good to sit through it.

Week three

Our last week here. Now that we have gotten to know the kids, I am sad it is our last week. We are teaching twice this week. We are teaching a lesson on Utah and China. Dr. Simmerman came and watched us teach and I think it went well. We had a popcorn party on Friday to say good bye to the students. They made us a card and gave us some honey (because of everybody being sick). It was very sad to say good bye and leave. They kept saying they were sad to have us go, and when we could come back. It was very cute. We were very nervous at the first about our class and ended up totally loving them.

Happy Thanksgiving
